The ammonium-based cations formed by partial dissociation in the solution can neutralize the negative charge on the clay surface by electrostatic action and reduce the hydration repulsion force of the clay, eLECTROSTATIC gravitation and Hydrogen Bonding Act together to bind the clay layers together and push out some of the adsorbed water between the layers, weaken the hydration of the clay, enhance the hydrophobicity of the clay surface, prevent the entry of water molecules, and further inhibit the hydration expansion of the clay.
